In case you haven’t heard yet Hell dropped a few degrees last week. Massachusetts elected a republican to the U.S. Senate to occupy a seat that had been held by a Kennedy for the past half century. The ramifications of this election are staggering and have been debated ad nauseam for the past week. The big picture is that the Democrats super majority has now been effectively shattered by a man from Massachusetts. Obama’s health care reform plans will have to be put on hold for the foreseeable future. As a conservative this is the best news of all. The very idea that the government would be put in charge of the heath care system makes me cringe inside. Brown says he is opposed to state run health care on the grounds that it will “raise taxes, increase government spending and lower the quality of care.”
The fact that he falls on the conservative side on many other issues is just icing on the cake. According to his website he is opposed to higher taxes while being for a free market economy, advocates choice for an individuals schooling, and a strong stance against illegal immigration. He also supports the second amendment and the death penalty while being against abortion. I understand that this is all from his website but if he even stands by half of what he says then his appointment is a huge win for conservatives everywhere.
Something surprising came up as I was writing this. Brown seems to be ‘past campaign mode’ whatever that means. There seems to be a little waffling already on his thoughts about healthcare. Here’s the link to the video:
So what does this mean now? I guess we will have to wait and see which way he actually votes. All we can do in the mean time is wait with bated breath as he decides which way he wants to go; be a RINO or stay true to his campaign promises.
