The 14th Amendment and the Debt Ceiling

Here is the full portion of the 14th Amendment that the Democrats keep trying to say gives Obama the ability to raise the debt ceiling by himself…

“The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.”

To understand the purpose you must understand the context. You see, this was ratified right after the civil war when many of the southern states were arguing that they did not have to help the federal government pay back any debt incurred in their battle against the Confederacy, like wise they argued that if they (the confederate states) had to help pay the Unions war debt then the Union should help them pay their debt as well.

This part (article 4) of the 14th amendment was put in place to make sure the ex-confederate states would have to help pay the unions debt as well as to make sure those same states knew that they would get no financial assistance from the federal government to help them pay off their war debt or any debts incurred due to the loss of their slaves after Emancipation. In fact, it made all those debts null and void, which left any county or person that loaned money to the confederacy holding the bag of a now worthless investment.

This amendment has NOTHING to do with letting the president raise the debt ceiling unilaterally, without the consent of congress. This amendment is quite obvious in its intent and purpose for which it was written. It does not say, as some Democrats will try to make to believe, “The validity of the public debt of the United States shall not be questioned”, period, end of point, game over! They love to leave the part between the commas out, “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.”

I understand the argument that some make that the debt was created by both parties and under many presidents and therefore it is not right for the congress to now say they will not pay a debt that they helped to create, but even that argument is miss leading. You see, we do have enough money to continue to pay our interest on the debt and still pay Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, but if we are no longer able to borrow 40 cents on every dollar that we spend, then we WILL have to make drastic cuts, about 40% worth of cuts (if my high school level math is correct).

Seems to me that is exactly what many people want the government to do, but some on the right are very worried that the people will not stay strong in their resolve to shrink government once many of the services we have become accustomed to get cut. When the media is in a frenzy and most people only get the left’s side of the issue spat at them every day from the MSM, will the people still back the Republicans, or will they turn their backs on conservatism once the effects of the cuts hit their door steps?

Due to this fear, some of the leaders in the GOP argue that it is better to take an “OK” deal now and work to win the presidency and the senate in 2012, so at that point we can push through all the changes that we want and let them have time to take effect, unobstructed. Because, when the huge cuts first start it will be very uncomfortable and that will allow the left to pounce on the right and stir up decent in the people. If that were to happen in the next few months the left might be able to use the blow back against the right to keep the White House and the senate, but if we wait till after 2012, we are assured of at least 4 years to let the cuts do their job. Hopefully, once we get past the initially uncomfortable stages, the people will regain their resolve when seeing the good that comes after.

This is exactly what happened in Puerto Rico when their new Conservative leadership started to make sweeping and drastic cuts to their overreaching and bloated government. At first, the same people that voted them in started to hate them. Thousands of government union workers lost their jobs and many programs were cut. But now, a little time later, people are starting to see the positive effects that the cuts and other changes are having, and while the current government is still not polling well, the tide is changing once again in their favor.

But, how can the GOP expect the Tea Partiers in this country to trust them? Waiting till after 2012 is a good idea and if implemented might even save this country, but this idea comes from many of the same people also raised the debt when they were in power while doing nothing to shrink the government. If the Tea Party is being unreasonable it is because they have been living under an even more unreasonable government for decades and feel that enough is enough. If we don’t force the cuts now by not raising the debt ceiling, then we may never make the cuts.

I read an article that asked the question, “Is America taking an unhealthy interest in the Chelsea Clinton wedding?”

Well… I follow politics everyday and I TOTALLY FORGOT that she was even getting married.

So, if anyone has a “creepy” fascination it must be the die hard libs that still put the their kids to sleep with stories of the Great Clinton Presidency, when all was well in the world.

Except… That was also when Clinton, Janet Reno, and the Congressional Black Caucus started putting enormous pressure on American banks to lend to “sub-prime” candidates -who most likely would never be able to pay them back. And if they refused? Well, beware the strong arm of the Janet Reno law and the fear of being called “racist” with hundreds of “paid” protesters showing up in front of their businesses.

This in turn, caused a 9 year housing bubble that eventually burst starting a chain reaction that left us with the worst economy in over 50 years. (No thanks to Obama who has done NOTHING beneficial to try to stop the crisis. Only make it worse)

So, in summation, I DO NOT have a “creepy” fascination with Chelsea’s wedding. I hope that clears the air.

Shocking Truth About Russian Spies… REVEALED???

In looking back at the Russian spy ring / swap debacle it can’t help but make you wonder, “What was the point of it all?” Yes, I know that spies from another country are never a good thing, but after reading more reports then I can count, I can find no real evidence that they were doing anything more harmful then your average liberal does on a daily basis.

Sure, there was talk of them trying to infiltrate banks and possibly trying to buy political favors but nothing concrete. All the reports seem to say they their mission was to learn more about America and try to influence policy, and based on the writings of at least one of the members, Vicky Pelaez, -who worked for El Diario, a prominent Spanish-language newspaper in New York- it would seem that their opinions and desired policy directives were pretty much in line with what the current administration is already doing.

There really was not much difference between these spies and the “undocumented” aliens that have marched the streets in Arizona. They both accessed this county illegally and while they have no voting rights they were doing every thing they could to influence the policies of this country and move us in a more liberally progressive direction, so as to benefit themselves and their home countries. Had they been American Citizens, you would have just called them Democrats. (See the video below)

Police Chase Naked Woman

So this story comes across my Twitter Feed

A woman was undergoing a mental evaluation Tuesday after police say she stole two vehicles, including a police cruiser, and led officers on a chase through two Salt Lake City suburbs — all while naked. Courtesy of the Associated Press and KTRV 13 Houston

It’s a sad tale really. The young lady is obviously dealing with a serious mental illness. Stories like this should serve as a reminder to the oft neglected issue of mental illness treatment and diagnosis. Who am I kidding? The question everyone wants answered is ‘Is she hot’?

I don’t know. No pictures have been released. But, I’m going to go with YES. I imagine she looks some thing like this:
